On October 15, 2024, the International Day of Rural Women was celebrated at the Berwa Kinunu Youth Center in the Boneza sector of Rutsiro District, uniting over 200 women, including beneficiaries of Berwa Kinunu, to honor their vital contributions to sustainable development. The celebration aimed to highlight the crucial role of rural women in driving sustainable progress, beginning from their own homes. It also sought to strategize ways to overcome ongoing challenges, such as limited access to resources, the burden of unpaid care and domestic work, and home-based violence. Local government officials emphasized the importance of community support in fostering women’s empowerment, while participants underscored the significant impact of Berwa Kinunu in improving the lives of rural women. The event featured an energizing sports session to promote physical and mental well-being, along with a heartfelt speech by Father Theophile, who stressed the need for collective action. Participants shared inspiring stories of achievement, reinforcing their commitment to advocating for their rights and showcasing the essential role of women in advancing sustainable development in Rwanda.
